crystal Basin hiking

Van Vleck Ranch to Lake #3

This hike is a 12+ mile intermediate hike for those in excellent hiking condition. We meet in the horse staging area at Van Vleck Ranch. This hike begins as a walk down the dirt road, then branching off to the right and soon the first creek crossing. We follow the soft trail through lightly forested areas and grassy meadows as we work our way towards our second crossing. From here we find thicker forests leading to a decent portion of southern exposed trail that is the climb to our destination, Lake #3. In wet seasons waterfalls on the east side are Cold showers!

bassi Falls hike - 1/2 day

This hike is a great family lunch hike of less than 3 miles round trip. Gentle hiking along the creek and Swiss cheese makers cellar. The area is known for Indian artifacts as well, please do not disturb.

Loon lake hiking exploring lake perimeter, coves, fishing, lunch, etc.

Twin and island Lake

This is a 7+ mile intermediate hike for those that are in good hiking condition. Meet by the horse staging area at Wrights Lake trail head. This is a somewhat southern exposed hike over granite and sometimes snow, don't forget the sun screen and sun glasses. It also has a wet finish on the approach to Twin Lake during a good winter, so good boots are a must as well. For those with a little extra energy, we hike above Island Lake to the outlet for the Twin Lakes Falls, and time permitting a quick view of the Aloha Lakes.

horse tail Falls

This is a fairly strenuous intermediate hike, exploring the small lakes, creeks, and tucked away spots above Horse Tail Falls towards Pyramid Lake and Lake Aloha. Should you have any knee problems this can be a bit hard on them on the way down, as there are many boulders and some steep down hill hiking.

pyramid peak hike

This is considered a strenuous hike of about 7 miles round trip to the top and back, gaining over 4k elevation in just a little over 3.5 miles. We meet in the Kyburz area for this fantastic hike up the Rock Creek drainage. The quick gains in elevation are a factor on this hike and will test your lungs as much as your legs!
